  1. There is an overwhelming difference between having the government involved and having the President express a strong opinion. If Obama had expressed his strong opinion on that wedding cake, that would have been fine. Even if Obama had suggested some major commercial customer of the baker (assuming one existed) punish the baker commercially, that would not have been an abuse of government power. If Congress passed a law placing respect for the national anthem above the Constitutional protection of free speech, that would be both unacceptable and directly analogous to the wedding cake story.
